  1. I really liked your series, Judson Roberts
They hooked me from the moment I read the first one.

I am curios thought… will there be any other series for us readers ?
such as spin offs about the other members of the crew, or a entirely diffenrent story ?

    • Thank you, Russell. The book I’m currently working on is sort of a spin off. The Beast of Dublin is set five years before The Strongbow Saga begins, and its central character is Hastein. Torvald and Tore are also in it, as is Ivar the Boneless. I started writing it back in 2009, when HarperCollins still had the rights to the series locked up, but I set it aside in 2010 when I got the rights to The Strongbow Saga back, and could work on it again. I’m finishing it now, before book 5 of The Strongbow Saga, because over time its story has evolved in my head, and now it will set up some relationships and characters that will be important in the final portion of the series. Look for The Beast f Dublin to come out later this year.

The Strongbow Saga itself is really more of a single story with a definite beginning and end than a true series, though I’ve had, for practical reasons, to spread the telling of it across five books. Structurally, it is somewhat like The Lord of the Rings: one long story told across several books. When I complete The Beast of Dublin, I’ll begin writing book 5 (although its story is already fairly well developed in my head), and I currently plan to publish it in 2016. I’m not sure about its title yet, although I’m considering “To the Edge of the World,” which comes from Hastein’s funeral speech for Hrodgar.

After The Strongbow Saga is complete…I’m not sure. I’d love to be working on the script for a film version, but that’s not something I can cause to happen on my own. And I do have some ideas about a few stand-alone books I could write about true historical events that occurred a decade or more after The Strongbow Saga ends. Hastein and Bjorn Ironsides made an epic, three year raid into the Mediterranean–that could make for a fascinating story–and towards the end of the 9th century a large Viking army invaded England and conquered much of it. For a time one of the army’s leaders was Ivar, although he apparently died before the conquest was complete. We’ll have to see what the future brings.

      • that’s awesome, its good to see a Author who is also interactive with their audience. A film would be a great way to finish off the strong bow saga after the last book.

even if you dot produce any more really long series, i will still try to read every one of your books.

        cheers

  2. Great series! I just finished The Long Hunt and was really looking forward to get the next one from Amazon, only to discover there was none. Bummer.
As a Swedish/Norwegian I must say that I miss our characters (äöå/æø) in Öland, Björkö, Sjælland, etc., but I guess I can forgive that since the letters didn’t exist back then anyway. Please hurry up with the next book!

    • Thank you! Book 5, which will be the final book in the series, should come out in 2016, but The Beast of Dublin, which covers some of the events in Hastein’s life in the years before the Strongbow saga begins, will be out by the end of this year.

  3. I absolutely love this series, I’m not a book person but this series is amazing, my dad showed me this series , and I can’t get enough! Kinda got depressed because I read the long hunt in two days.

  4. Is there a certain number of books planned for this saga? I got book one yesterday and have already finished and am a good portion through book two. It’s a very good series. Just curious about it’s intended length.

    • Yes, the series will end with book 5–which I anticipate will come out in 2016. It’s a single, continuing story told across five volumes, rather than a series of independent stories with the same characters, so the storyline has a definite end. I’m glad you like it so far.

      • Oh wonderful! Thank you so much for letting me know. I would try and take my time but I must know what happens to halfdan! I shall just have to reread them in 2016. Have a good New Years

  5. I have just finished the series for a second time thinking book 5 was out only to find it wasn’t!!! Argh is all I can say. Halfdan is just a great character and even now I can feel his sword swipes at your head to let the 5th book seep out onto the pages. Stop enjoying that lovely Texan air and chain yourself to a desk!! Have a great Xmas to you both

    • Argh indeed! Sorry you didn’t know book 5 isn’t out–in fact, it won’t be until 2016 (those sword swipes must have missed). But thanks for the Christmas wishes, and the same to you. And for the past three years, we’ve been enjoying Oregon air, which is MUCH lovelier than Texas air–cleaner and cooler, too.

      • There you see not only am I behind in books but also where you live! Double argh! Thanks for update though and as said can’t wait for the conclusion to halfdans story (which in itself is a sad thing to look forward to).

Ps. Maybe if he is alive at the end he could have a midlife crisis and go a-viking again and there is another trilogy for you to write!!! Glass half full all the way

  6. I am a little late on reading book 4, but for good reason. Back when I first began reading The Stongbow Saga I was inspired to further my study in history. Recently I have graduated from my first (hopefully of many) history degree. I’d like to thank you for helping me discover a love of history. Your novel really helped me find myself and my passions. Thank you. I really appreciate every book and all the effort you have put into them.
