For a limited time, you can get a free copy of the Kindle e-book edition of Viking Warrior, book 1 of the Strongbow Saga. The book will be free in Amazon’s Kindle store from Friday, January 27th, through Sunday, January 29th. The button below will take you to the page in the Amazon store.
I’m offering Viking Warrior free for two reasons: first, there may be readers out there who have not tried the series because they think a novel about the Vikings wouldn’t interest them, but if it’s free, they might at least give it a look. Amazon has created a new, special promotional program for authors, that lets them offer their books free for a brief time, for just this purpose. So even if you think a novel about the Vikings might not be your cup of tea, please try it. I’m hoping you’ll find yourselves pleasantly surprised—not only with the book itself, but also to learn about the true nature of the Viking peoples and their culture. The second reason is to give existing fans of the series a chance to pick up a free copy of the e-book version of book 1. It’s a small way of saying thank you for your support.
For those who have not yet experimented with e-books, you might not realize that it’s not necessary to buy an actual Kindle e-book reader (although I certainly love mine). Amazon offers a wide range of free Kindle apps, including for PCs, for iPhones or Android smartphones, and for the iPad and other tablet-style computers. All you have to do is download the appropriate free app to your device, and you’ll be able to use it as a Kindle e-book reader, ready to download Viking Warrior or any other e-book available through Amazon. For your convenience, I’ve included some links to where the various free Kindle apps can be downloaded:

Are your books available for the nook?
Hello Sarah,
To answer your question (sort of), yes and no. Currently, only book 2 is available for the Nook, although book 1, Viking Warrior, was available in the past, and will become available again after March 7th. Currently that book is in a special Amazon program that requires it to be exclusively offered by Amazon, but it will come out of the program and become available elsewhere again, including through Barnes & Noble, in early March.
A Nook version of book 3 is currently being created (Barnes & Noble and Amazon use different formats for their e-books), and as soon as that conversion is complete and sent to me–hopefully also by the first week of March–it, too, will be available as a Nook book.
I’m trying to make the books as widely available as possible, but because the great majority of sales of the series are as Amazon Kindle books, for economic reasons it just makes sense for those versions to be the first priority to publish.
Okay, i have got several friends to read your books and now we’re ALL waiting for Book 4! Your September post raised hopes that it’s release wasn’t too awfully far off. Hope about a progress report?
Finally a suggestion for fans: if you like Mr. Roberts’ books, you should try The Story of Rolf and the Viking’s Bow by Allen French, Kindle for just $2.99. If you can bear with the first few pages and get used to the language, it’s a Braveheart/Beowulf/Odyssey/Halfdan epic that French is retelling from an old manuscript. A ripping story with a vivid look at a period of Viking culture.
I’m actually in the midst of a major move, from Texas to Oregon, that’s keeping me from doing any writing at all. But once up there–in about a week–I’ll be in a rental house for a few months with very few distractions, and hope/plan to finish the first draft of book 4 in a concentrated push. I’ll post status reports here.
It is only Free to Prime members. Wants $4 from me. Ah well, I was looking forward to it.
It’s free to everyone this weekend. Perhaps you tried too early?
